Summary:
It’s hard to summarize the Spyder Fenix – it’s great for what it is, which is hands down better than anything below it and not quite as good as anything above it. The Spyder Fenix is beautiful to look at, will serve you well, and is sufficiently upgradeable to grow with you as a player. If you’re looking for a full auto in this price range, get the Fenix. If it costs too much for you, try the Spyder Imagine; and if you have money to spare, get a higher end gun.

Note: Kingman has stopped making the original Spyder Fenix, but there are newer versions available

Shooting:
Shooting is the reason to buy the Spyder Fenix. It almost never chops, has a great rate of fire, fantastic balance, and only the slightest recoil. On any setting except semi-auto, you can set the rate of fire (from 6 to 14 bps). You can also adjust the distance of the trigger pull. The LCD display is bright enough for night-time play. To get maximum performance from your Spyder Fenix, you will want an electro hopper (a must), a new barrel, and a nitro or HPA system.

Maintenance:
With no tool required and a simple interior, the Spyder Fenix is a snap to clean. You will want to replace the grip, which is flimsy. (Remember to get a grip that allows you to read the display – try Dye’s Sticky 3 E-grip). Other than that the Spyder Fenix is built to last.

Upgrades:
The Spyder Fenix is a solid performer out of the box, but is also highly upgradable. The first steps are to get a new grip (~$20, see above) and an electro hopper. While the stock barrel is one of the best in its price range, you will probably want an aftermarket barrel. Though the Fenix comes with an expansion chamber, you will get more consistent performance out of this paintball gun with a nitro or compressed air system. Beyond that, the Fenix is your to do with what you will.
